BNI Membership Process

  1. Visit the BNI chapter. If there is no other professional in your business category, prospective members are encouraged to complete an application for membership. A visitor host will explain the application form and related fees.
  2. Submit the completed application and membership fees to your visitor host.
  3. The application will be reviewed by the membership committee, and references will be checked.
  4. The membership committee will contact the prospective new member with approval notification within a week.
  5. The new member returns to the group meeting. In approximately one week, membership materials will be presented to the new member as the member is officially welcomed into the group.
  6. The new member will pay the weekly chapter fee until they are inducted, at which time they can pay the fee monthly or quarterly.
  7. The new member is expected to attend a Membership Success training within the first month of membership (see leadership team member for details on local training events).

Membership Responsibilities

Attendance
The chapter meets every week. Attendance is critical to the group. If you cannot attend, you may send a substitute (not a member of our chapter) to the meeting. This will not count as an absence. A member is allowed three absences every six months (April through September and October through March). More than this and the member's classification is subject to being opened by the chapter's Membership Committee.

Chapter Dues
Chapter Dues are monthly or quarterly installments paid by each member. These dues pay for the member's weekly breakfast, in addition to helping the chapter build funds for chapter activities. Dues are currently $195 per quarter. Visitors pay $12 for breakfast.

The Chapter Dues are separate from the $330 annual registration fees paid to BNI. There is also a one-time $75 application fee charged by BNI.

Member Success Program
BNI assists members in becoming a vital part of their chapter with a two-hour training session called the Member Success Program (MSP). This mandatory training is offered regularly in San Francisco for $25. This training is required prior to having the opportunity to give one of the weekly 10-minute presentations. The 10-minute presentation is your best opportunity to educate the other members about your business and how to give you referrals, thereby increasing the quality and quantity of your referrals.

Concerns
Please address all concerns to a Leadership Team member rather than complaining about it to other members or addressing the whole group. Keeping our energy positive and focused on building up each other and our chapter is essential to maintaining a positive group atmosphere.

Givers Gain
"Givers Gain" is the motto of BNI, meaning that we are here to help each other's businesses grow by bringing referrals to the group. What you give to the other members will come back to you multiplied.

We are pleased to have you as a part of the BNI Half Moon Bay Chapter, and look forward to a productive and beneficial partnership!

Sincerely,
Leadership Team
